This represents a 6.51% increase and follows a wider EU trend of tightening skilled immigration policies. However, the EU Blue Card remains one of the most attractive pathways for high-skilled professionals from outside the EU to work and live in Europe.

Who Is Eligible for the Blue Card in Czechia?

To apply for the EU Blue Card in the Czech Republic, non-EU professionals must:
- Hold a valid work contract for a high-skilled job lasting at least 6 months
- For regulated professions: meet Czech qualification standards
- For non-regulated professions: prove relevant higher education or expertise

Provide:
- Valid passport
- Proof of accommodation
- Criminal record certificate
- Application form and photograph

Bonuses and benefits do not count toward the required salary level. Additional income is required to sponsor dependents.

Validity & Processing Time

The Blue Card is valid for up to 3 years, and the maximum processing time in Czechia is 90 days. The new salary threshold applies to all applications submitted after May 1, including renewals and pending cases.

Luxembourg also raised its salary requirements for Blue Card applicants. Starting March 18, 2025, candidates must earn at least €65,408 annually to qualify.

Conclusion

The policy update reflects the EU’s effort to regulate skilled migration while keeping the Blue Card an attractive legal migration route for top-tier professionals.
