The Most Affordable Off-Season Destinations: TravelBag’s Beer Index

The Most Affordable Off-Season Destinations: TravelBag’s Beer Index

A recent study by TravelBag, published in Express, has identified the top 10 most affordable off-season destinations worldwide. These locations offer comfortable weather, discounts on accommodation, and beer prices ranging from just $1 to $3.

Mauritius Leads the Ranking

Mauritius tops the list, especially the Grand Baie area, where weather remains pleasant from September to November with moderate tourist traffic. A pint of beer costs £1.82 ($2.47), which is higher than some other destinations but still significantly cheaper than in Europe.

Goa: Beer Cheaper Than Water

Goa, India, follows with a beer price starting at £0.81 ($1.10). From April to September, accommodation, dining, and transportation prices are substantially lower, offering an affordable beach vacation with hot weather and fewer crowds.

Madagascar's Exotic Nosy Be Island

On Madagascar’s Nosy Be island, a pint costs £0.84 ($1.14). Even during high season, the island remains uncrowded, making it ideal for diving and eco-tourism during the warm off-season months.

Cancun: Comfort Before and After Peak

Cancun, Mexico, is particularly affordable from May to June and September to November. Beer is priced at £1.74 ($2.36), and hotels and tours often offer off-season discounts.

Masai Mara: Kenya's Affordable Safari

Masai Mara, Kenya, is more budget-friendly from November to May. Tour packages, flights, and accommodations are more affordable, while safaris remain exciting year-round. Beer costs £1.80 ($2.44).

Colombo and Sri Lanka's Cultural Treasures

In Colombo, Sri Lanka, off-season beer prices are £1.60 ($2.17). While occasional rain showers may occur from May to September, the weather remains comfortable for exploring beaches and cultural sites such as Kandy.

Saint Lucia: Caribbean Comfort on a Budget

Saint Lucia offers pints for £1.44 ($1.95) during off-peak months, especially around Soufriere. Lower airfare and accommodation prices attract budget-conscious travelers looking for a quieter Caribbean experience.

Argentina's Buenos Aires: Affordable Urban Escape

Argentina ranks eighth, with beer in Buenos Aires priced at £1.40 ($1.90). Off-season travel avoids the summer heat while offering tango shows, historic districts, and excellent cuisine at reasonable prices.

Serengeti: Tanzania’s Quiet Safari Season

Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park is quieter and more affordable outside peak migration months (July-October), particularly in November, early December, and late March. Beer costs just £0.81 ($1.10).

Jaipur: Rajasthan’s Pink City at Lower Prices

Jaipur, India, rounds out the top 10, where off-season prices drop from April to September. Beer costs £1.57 ($2.13), and the "Golden Triangle" route (Delhi, Agra, Jaipur) becomes more affordable during this period.

Africa Dominates the List

Interestingly, four out of ten destinations are located in Africa: Tanzania, Kenya, Madagascar, and Mauritius. This highlights the continent’s growing appeal for both safari adventures and budget-friendly beach vacations. None of the destinations are within the Eurozone, providing additional savings for British and European tourists.

TravelBag’s index proves that off-season travel allows tourists to save significantly on flights, accommodation, and daily expenses while still enjoying excellent weather and experiences — often in a quieter, more relaxing setting.
