Oman Air Launches Bus Route From UAE to Muscat

New transport link helps stranded travelers continue journeys

Oman Air has launched a temporary bus service connecting Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates with Muscat in Oman to assist travelers affected by ongoing disruptions in Gulf airspace. Flight cancellations, route changes and airspace restrictions have made departures from several airports in the region difficult, creating the need for alternative travel options.

The service links Sharjah’s Al Jubail Bus Station, one of the emirate’s main transportation hubs, with Muscat International Airport. Passengers with confirmed Oman Air bookings can travel by bus to the airline’s hub in Muscat and continue their journeys on international flights.

The initiative is designed to support passengers who cannot currently depart from UAE airports and need an alternative route to reach their destinations.

Bus schedule and travel requirements

The bus service operates two daily departures from Sharjah to Muscat. Buses leave Al Jubail Bus Station at 7:00 AM and 1:00 PM, arriving in Muscat at approximately 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM.

The service is operated by Muwasalat, Oman’s national transport company. The buses are equipped with air conditioning, spacious seating and onboard amenities to ensure passenger comfort during the journey.

Travelers must hold confirmed Oman Air tickets departing from Muscat and meet the visa requirements for entering Oman. Depending on nationality, passengers may qualify for visa-on-arrival access or may need to obtain an electronic visa in advance.

A temporary ground-to-air travel corridor

The new bus connection effectively creates a temporary ground-to-air corridor between the UAE and Oman. This allows passengers whose flights from the UAE were canceled or delayed to continue their journeys through Muscat.

The route has become particularly important for travelers heading to India. Oman Air continues to operate regular flights from Muscat to major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.

For many passengers this route currently provides one of the most reliable ways to leave the region while airspace disruptions persist.

Aviation disruptions reshape regional travel routes

Air travel disruptions across the Gulf have been driven by geopolitical tensions and temporary airspace closures in parts of the region. Airlines have been forced to reroute flights, cancel services and adjust schedules.

In response, carriers are increasingly exploring alternative transportation models to maintain connectivity for passengers.

Oman Air’s integration of ground transportation with its Muscat hub highlights how airlines can adapt to operational challenges through hybrid transport solutions.

Tourism links between UAE and Oman remain important

Despite the current aviation disruptions, tourism between the UAE and Oman continues to play a significant role in the regional economy. Muscat remains a popular destination for travelers seeking cultural heritage, traditional markets and scenic coastal landscapes.

The UAE continues to attract millions of visitors each year thanks to its global aviation hubs, modern infrastructure and hospitality industry.

The new transport corridor may help maintain some level of travel flow between the two countries until normal flight operations resume.

As experts at International Investment note, the emergence of alternative travel routes between Gulf countries illustrates the aviation industry’s ability to adapt quickly to crisis situations. The integration of ground transport with international aviation hubs could become a practical model for maintaining connectivity in regions experiencing airspace disruptions.
