U.S. Introduces ‘Self-Deportation’ Feature in CBP Home App

U.S. Introduces ‘Self-Deportation’ Feature in CBP Home App

The U.S. has introduced a new feature in the CBP Home app that allows migrants to declare their intention to leave the country voluntarily. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recommends illegal immigrants use the app "immediately" to avoid facing deportation and long-term entry bans.

The app, available on Apple App Store & Google Play, provides 24/7 access to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) services. A step-by-step guide for voluntary departure is now included.

Why was this app created?

Former CBP One allowed nearly a million people to enter the U.S. legally, scheduling 1,450 daily appointments at border crossings. However, following Trump's executive orders, the program was shut down on January 20, 2025, the day of his inauguration.

Trump's Immigration Crackdown

President Trump has declared a national emergency at the southern border, vowing to halt all illegal crossings and begin mass deportations. His campaign pledged to deport 11 million undocumented immigrants.

A $200M "Self-Deportation" Campaign

The self-deportation feature in CBP Home is part of a $200 million ad campaign, urging undocumented migrants to leave voluntarily before facing stricter enforcement.

Controversy & Privacy Concerns

Critics argue the new CBP Home app spreads fear among immigrants. Lawyer Laura Rivera warns that it may compromise personal data, allowing the government to expand its surveillance databases.

? Military Involvement & Mass Deportations
5,000 migrants detained in San Diego & El Paso will be flown out using military aircraft.
1,500 additional troops deployed to assist in border security & surveillance.
ICE has expanded raids, arresting 956 undocumented migrants in cities like Chicago, Newark, and Miami.

A Changing Migration Landscape

Fewer migrants are crossing Darien Gap between Colombia & Panama (only 408 in February).
Migrant requests for repatriation in Mexico tripled in early 2025.
UNHCR reports daily asylum applications in Mexico have tripled to 500-600 per day.

Will Mass Deportations Work?

Experts warn that Trump’s immigration crackdown could be costly & impractical. However, his administration is pushing ahead, impacting migrants from all countries—including Russia.
