Airports in the Krasnodar Region Face 155 Flight Delays
Restrictions Linked to Drone Attack Defense
Massive flight delays continue in the airports of Sochi and Krasnodar on March 2. According to the airports’ online departure and arrival boards, a total of 155 arrivals and departures have been affected. The restrictions were implemented to ensure flight safety amid drone attacks, reports the Kuban News portal.
Disruptions in Sochi and Krasnodar
In the morning, the restrictions at Sochi Airport, which had been in effect for 18 hours, were lifted. Nevertheless, the schedule is gradually being restored. Departure delays affect 65 flights, more than 40 of which were originally scheduled for March 1. Arrivals are delayed for 53 aircraft. Crews of 11 flights decided to divert to alternate airports in Vladikavkaz, Mineralnye Vody, Grozny, Makhachkala, and Astrakhan.
Tolknews notes that the disruptions affect a wide range of destinations, including Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Kazan, Istanbul, and Tbilisi.
At Krasnodar Airport, the restrictions introduced at 11:00 on March 1 remain in effect. Departures of 27 flights are postponed, 18 of them since yesterday, along with the arrivals of ten aircraft.
Ministry of Defense Data
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that overnight, 66 drones were shot down over the Krasnodar region. Another 67 drones were destroyed over the Black Sea, and eight over the Sea of Azov. Sochi Mayor Andrey Proshunin explained that the on-duty air defense systems intercepted dozens of targets in the city area. In the Lazarevsky District, debris damaged the glazing of a house and a parked car in a garden cooperative located away from Volkovka. The mayor emphasized that assistance would be provided to property owners.
In Novorossiysk, a drone attack was also repelled. Four residential buildings were damaged, and fragments of a downed drone hit one apartment, injuring a person who was rushed to the hospital.
Passenger Situation
Passengers face several-hour waits for their flights, with some flights postponed to the following day. For convenience, airports have provided mattresses, blankets, and mats for rest, additional seating, and water coolers. A mother-and-child room is available. Hotel managers are advised to accommodate guests during flight delays; however, terminal and hotel services remain under high pressure, and passengers deal with long waits and limited access to facilities.
Impact on Tourism
International Investment analysts note that the massive flight delays in Sochi and Krasnodar negatively affect tourism in the region. Risks to life and health from drone attacks, extended waiting times for departures, and schedule uncertainty may reduce the attractiveness of resorts for travelers in the coming days.
Restoring stable airport operations and ensuring safety remain key factors for maintaining tourist flows and travelers’ trust in the region.
