Money Transfers to Georgia Increase: USA, Italy and Russia Lead

Georgia is seeing an increase in incoming transactions from abroad. From January to August 2025, a total of $2.37 bn was transferred. According to the National Bank, amounts have been rising every month. Russia has remained among the top three largest sources but has given way to the USA and Italy.
June: America Strengthens Its Position
In June 2025, Georgia received $315.51 m (861 m GEL). This is $34.4 m, or 12.2%, more than in the same month of 2024. The main transactions came from 28 countries.

The largest amounts were transferred from the USA — $58.8 m (+23%), Italy — $51.6 m (+12.81%), and Russia — $41.1 m (-15.86%). Germany increased by 21.4% to $27.2 m, and Greece by 17.6% to $25.7 m. Israelis also showed activity — $24 m (+23.1%). Kyrgyzstan transferred $9.3 m — much less in absolute terms, but the republic ranked third in growth rates at +82.3%, behind only Belarus (+244%) and Lebanon (+88.5%).
Turkey accounted for $9.1 m, up 13.2% from June 2024. Spain contributed $8.2 m, also showing notable growth at +37.1%. The top ten countries also included Ireland — $6.4 m (+17.8%), France — $5.9 m (+16.8%), and the United Kingdom — $5.1 m (+28.9%). Overall, EU countries sent $140.2 m (+17.2%), making up 44.4% of all transfers, while other countries accounted for $175.3 m (+8.5%).

Growth was also noted in Moldova (+66.9%), Slovakia (+31.4%), Belgium (+26.5%) and the Netherlands (+26.3%). Outgoing transfers from Georgia in June reached $34.3 m (93.7 m GEL), up 21.8% year-on-year.
July: Kyrgyzstan and Spain Lead in Growth Rates
In July 2025, Georgia received $336.99 m (914.6 m GEL) — $38.9 m or 13% more than in the same month of 2024. More than 96% of all transfers came from 26 countries.

The leaders remained the USA — $60.9 m (+21%), Italy — $55.7 m (+14%), and Russia — $45.2 m (-0.5%). Germany contributed $29.2 m (+18.4%), Greece — $26.1 m (+12.4%). Transfers from Israel reached $24 m (+11%).
Other notable directions include Kyrgyzstan — $11.3 m (+44.05%) and Turkey — $10 m (+9.42%). Spain in July ranked second in growth rates: +42.2%, up to $10 m. France contributed $6.6 m (+23%). Overall, EU countries sent $149.4 m (+16.4%), accounting for 44.3% of all transfers, while other countries transferred $187.6 m (+10.5%), or 55.7%.

Experts also noted increased transactions from Slovakia (+38.5%), the Netherlands — $2.2 m (+32.9%), Canada (+30.9%), and the United Kingdom (+19.5%). Outgoing transfers from Georgia in July amounted to $37.3 m (101.2 m GEL), 11.4% more than a year earlier.
August: Slovakia and Saudi Arabia Gain Momentum
In August 2025, the volume of transfers from abroad rose by 10.7% to $321.55 m (868.7 m GEL). The largest amounts again came from the USA — $59.3 m (+16.8%), Italy — $53.4 m (+8.3%), and Russia — $41.3 m (-2.9%). Transfers from Germany increased by 15.5% to $29.3 m, and from Greece by 12.4% to $25.1 m.

Transfers from Israel totaled $22.4 m (+12.7%), Kyrgyzstan — $11.2 m (+41.4%). Turkey sent $9.4 m (+8.85%), Spain — $9.2 m (+21.1%). Kazakhstan’s figure fell to $8.9 m (-0.55%), while flows from France increased by 19.2% to $6.7 m. Overall, EU countries transferred $144.3 m (+11.7%), or 44.9% of all inflows, while other countries accounted for $177.3 m (+9.8%).

In terms of growth, in addition to Kyrgyzstan, Slovakia (+31.8%) and Saudi Arabia (+20%) also stood out in August. Outgoing transfers from Georgia reached $35.7 m (96.4 m GEL), up 7.8% from August last year.
The portal Apsny.ge writes that the increase in transfers from other countries reflects the large number of foreigners in Georgia. It may also result from business or purchasing activity. For example, many cars were re-exported to Kyrgyzstan. In addition, Georgia offers a wide range of programs for foreigners, particularly attractive due to the low tax for individual entrepreneurs with small business status — only 1%. A recently introduced residence permit for IT specialists is issued for three years at once.
